Wander Over Yonder blog: The Bounty

So yeah, I'm going to start up a routine blog, where I post my thoughts on the latest episode of Wander Over Yonder.  Who knows, maybe enough people will see this and get into the show.  I think I'll do the same with Adventure Time and Steven Universe, once I catch up with those shows, and I'm also doing the same for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.  Same goes for Gravity Falls, once it comes back.  It's funny, this is starting to turn into an animation blog, even though I didn't exactly want it to be like that, but hey, as long as I'm using this blog for something!

So yeah, Wander Over Yonder.  I made a post about this show a while back, explaining my hopes and expectations for the series, and so far, the series might have exceeded my expectations.  It definitely has a lot more going for it then on the surface, and I really hope more people get into it, because it truly is a funny and entertaining show!

I believe the first season is almost halfway over, which is a shame, I probably should have started doing this from the beginning.  But like I said with Friendship is Magic, better late then never, so instead, I'm starting with The Bounty, the latest episode of the show.  It's a really good episode, check after the break to see why!

My Thoughts on The Powerpuff Girls 20th Anniversary: Dance Pantsed

20 years ago, a cartoon show known as The Powerpuff Girls premiered on Cartoon Network, and it soon became one of the network's most popular shows, even to this day.  It was about a trio of kindergarten superheroines, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, using their super powers to save the city of Townsville "before bedtime".  The show was known for it's clever sense of humor, as well as it's surprising amount of violence (which, in a sense, is also part of the joke).  In celebration for their 20th anniversary, Cartoon Network produced a half-hour special:

As you can see, it has a new art-style, and is also the first time the series had zero input from the show's creator, Craig McCracken, who is too busy working on another original show of his for the Disney Channel, Wander Over Yonder, which I've mentioned in previous posts on this blog.

I recorded this and saw it when I saw the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic episode, Three's a Crowd, this last Saturday, and as such, I probably don't have the best memory of what I watched as opposed to if I wrote about it then.  While I watched it, I tried to keep in mind the tone of the original show more then anything, but also tried to maintain an open mind about it...  Honestly?  I kind of liked it.  Find out what I mean after the break.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 4 Blog: Three's a Crowd

I've been meaning to do this for some time.  See, I like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and I typically watch new episodes and post my thoughts on the forums I go to.  I figured my thoughts are so long and extensive, I should actually post them on my blog!  I probably SHOULD have started doing this as soon as season 4 started, instead of near the middle of season 4, but whatever, at least I'm actually doing it.  Plus I'll likely do the same thing for other TV shows I'm watching, like Wander Over Yonder and anything else I feel I'd like to comment on.

ANYWAY, the first episode of this particular series: Three's a Crowd.

Yeah, I liked it alright, I guess...  I'm still a little confused and/or conflicted about some things in the episode, which I MIGHT get to them as I come to them, but then again, I'm the kind of guy who tends to forget things I wanted to comment on...  Oh well, here it goes.  See my incredibly extensive thoughts on this episode after the break! Tadpole Treble (game from Brawl in the Family artist)

How many of you out there are familiar with the webcomic "Brawl in the Family"?  It's a gaming webcomic that's based around pre-existing video game characters, mostly Nintendo characters (and even more specifically Kirby characters), as they have comedic set-ups to some of the more quirky nature of certain games and game characters.  Check it out here:

Anyway, he is making a musical game called "Tadpole Treble", which is about a little tadpole called "Baton" as she tries to get back to her pond, and she swims through sheets of music.  Here's a small teaser here:

$30,000 and the game will be funded!  $50,000 and we'll get a Wii U version!  There are other stretch goals, too, but not many...  This guy's a really funny and awesome guy, and the game is cute and charming!  Help this guy out and pitch in!

Hurricane Fluttershy: Why it's My Personal Favorite Episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

So, I don't know how many of you actually read this blog, but for those of you that do, you'll probably know that I'm a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (I GUESS I'm a Brony, though I seem to be steadily growing more uncomfortable with the word every day).  The premiere of season 4 of the show will be November 23 this year, and in honor of the event, Equestria Daily, one of the most well-know pony-related blogs/fansites on the web, has been counting down the days by going over every episode so far (plus the movie Equestria Girls).  Today, they recap the season 2 episode, Hurrican Fluttershy:

From Maxwell Atoms, the creator of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (and Evil Con Carne) comes a new web series called Dead Meat, a “post-apocalyptic black comedy/social satire/puppet gore web series about a guy and his mutant dog called Dead Meat.”  The Kickstarter goal is $50,000 and ends on November 16 (my birthday).

Heck yeah, this is awesome!  I mean, I would have preferred seeing Atoms getting that Underfist spin-off series, but still, heck yeah!

I Miss Enjoying Something for Enjoyment's Sake

Just felt like sharing this for a moment:

The guy here, Daniel Floyd, talks about why certain "retro-style" games stick with us, and gives his own personal reason for it.  Thing is, the words Dan uses, "joy, zany, child-like wonder", those are the same exact words I use to describe Wander Over Yonder!  So many times, I've come across people who say Wander's annoying, the show's childish, or that it's not as good as DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, blah blah blah...  Now, setting aside the "they don't make 'em like they used to" attitude here, isn't it SAD that something that's just apologetically fun is being shunned and looked down upon simply for being that?  I mean, not to knock the mroe serious dramas other TV shows do, but why CAN'T we just enjoy something like this?  This is now my favorite TV show, not just on the air or in modern times, but of ALL TIME, because I LOVE this aspect about the show.  It's funny, it's crazy, it's got great comedic timing, it's knows JUST what it wants to be without missing the mark, and best (or perhaps in a way, worst) of all, it stands out as an inherently positive show in the utter wasteland that is cynical, mean-spirited, snarky and sarcastic, and at times outright RUDE shows where characters are mean to each other without a second thought.  There's this assumption that comedy is all about the suffering of others, and while that's true to an extent, this show proves that you can be funny AND be heartwarming and have a good message as well!  I literally can NOT say enough good things about this show, and it greatly saddens me that people are putting it down for the very things that the show excels at...

...Ah well, maybe in time, it'll grow an appreciation...  Or perhaps kids who watch it today with get nostalgic for it and then say no show will ever be as good as this one.  Hopefully, that second one won't happen...  or at the very least, be as bad as how it is today.
